Seatbelt Law Is Now In Effect

Yesterday, the law kicked in. Passengers in backseat of passenger vehicles must wear seatbelt or else the driver will be fined for 1,500 NT (~USD50) on regular roads or 3,000-6,000NT (~USD100-200) on speedway. For months this has been communicated through radio and TV. Yesterday, several radio stations over and over reminded people in morning news, “Fines start today!”

I was eager to find out how this is enforced. The news said today, “950 fines were issued yesterday.” Were there warnings given instead of fines? They didn’t say.
